Frequently
Asked Questions
1.)
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a health care profession that
focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system
and the nervous system, and the effects of these
disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is
most often used to treat neuromusculoskeletal
complaints, including but not limited to back pain,
neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms and the
legs, and headaches.
Doctors of Chiropractic, often referred to as
Chiropractors, practice a drugs-free, hands on
approach to health care that includes a through
examination, diagnosis, and treatment.
Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills, and are
also trained to recommend therapeutic and
rehabilitative exercises. Chiropractors are trained
to care for people of all ages - from children to
the elderly.
2.)
What can I expect on my First Visit?
The
first thing we will do is ask you about your injury
or problem. We will take a detailed history of any
current problems and other injuries that you have
had in the past. We will ask any other questions,
including other treatment that you may have
had for this issue, necessary to help determine the
nature of this condition and the best way to go
about treating the problem. We will then perform
a detailed orthopedic and neurological examination
of the area to help diagnose the problem.
If we
determine that your problem is one that we can help
correct, we will develop an
individualized, appropriate treatment plan to fix
the problem as effectively and efficiently as
possible.

The
Doctors and Therapists at LSC will focus on helping
you achieve maximum biomechanical efficiency of your
body. Dr. Aaron Williams is a Certified Strength
and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) - which means
that he has advanced training in exercise science.
He focuses on insuring that all of the
musculoskeletal tissues - muscles, ligaments,
tendons, etc. that are involved in your sport are
healthy and function in optimum balance. He
believes that, "If a joint is not working as well as
it could be, then you aren't playing as well as you
should be."
6.)
Can I have Chiropractic Care after back surgery?
Yes.
The Doctors coordinate your care with your Surgeon
and will avoid the surgically modified area of your
spine or associated joints. Surgery often causes
instability above and below the involved area.
These areas will be the focus of your Chiropractic
care and Rehabilitative Therapy. It's important to
rehabilitate the spine following surgery and the
Chiropractors at LSC are experts in post-surgical
care.
7.)
How is a Chiropractic Adjustment performed? How safe is
it?
Chiropractic Adjustment, or Manipulation, is a
manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined
skills developed during the intensive years of
Chiropractic education. The Chiropractor typically
uses his or her hands to manipulate the joints of
the body, particularly the spine, in order to reduce
pain and restore or enhance joint function.
Chiropractic manipulation is a highly controlled
procedure that rarely causes discomfort. The
Chiropractor adapts the procedure to meet the
specific needs of each patient. Patients often
notice positive changes in their symptoms
immediately following treatment.
Chiropractic is widely recognized as one of the
safest drug-free, non-invasive therapies available
for the treatment of neuromusculoskeletal
complaints. Although Chiropractic has an excellent
safety record, no health treatment is completely
free of potential adverse effects.
The
risks associated with Chiropractic, however, are
very small. Many patients feel immediate relief
following Chiropractic treatment, but some may
experience mild soreness or aching, just as they do
after some forms of exercise. Current literature
shows that minor discomfort or soreness following
spinal manipulation typically fades within 24 hours.
8.) Is
Chiropractic treatment appropriate for children?
Yes,
children of all ages can benefit from Chiropractic
care. Parents of infants and toddlers seek
Chiropractic care all over the world for signs and
symptoms such as: colic, chronic ear infections,
posture problems, and many others. Research shows
that children undergoing Chiropractic care have
improved sleeping habits, improved behavior and
attitude, and improved immune function!
Toddlers and older children are very physically
active and experience many types of falls and blows
from activities of daily living as well as from
participating in sports. Injuries such as these may
cause many symptoms including back and neck pain,
stiffness, soreness, or discomfort. Chiropractic
care is always adapted to the individual patient.
It is a highly skilled treatment and, in the case of
children, very gentle.
